THE STORY
Andrew McUtchen is an Australian singer-songwriter from Melbourne, in the great state of Victoria.
Andrew's debut album, 'Down With Wanderlust' was released independently on his fledgling label Hard Rain Records. Andrew wrote all the songs and played all the instruments on the record apart from a stripped back acoustic cover of INXS' 'Never Tear Us Apart'.
iTunes album downloads include bonus track 'Cold Steel' (fully re-mastered), as heard on Triple J. The album also includes Triple J 'Unearthed' acoustic ballad and Roots Category nominee 2008, 'Africa'.
Down With Wanderlust was recorded winter 2008 at Sound Concepts Studio in Black Rock. Warwick Thomas (formerly of '60s pinup band Dove) produced, mixed and acted as guru during the sessions. Andrew and Warwick bonded over vintage music gear and a mutual love of silence as well as sound in song.
The album was followed up by an EP titled 'Songs to Get Us True' recorded in collaboration with Irish musican Cian Loughnane. The collection of four original songs plus one Leonard Cohen cover - 'Famous Blue Raincoat' - had some success in Ireland, with the Celtic Radio Network awarding it a 5 STAR review.
