'Songs To Get Us True' is the happiest accident of my life so far. I was tipped off about a great website to find musos (thanks Rakes), and I put an ad on that read something like 'Damian Rice seeks band'. I wanted the right players. Patient, acoustic, accomplished ones who know you can kill people soflty too.
A guy rings up and I can hardly understand a word he says. He's not from round here, but the gist of the call is "I've played with Damian, does that help?" Say hi to Dublin based Irish Australian violin wunderkind Cian Loughnane. It helps alot. We jam on Africa, his favourite song off Wanderlust because it's "like Nick Drake, who's a fookin genius". Turns out he's played with and in support of Glen Hansard, Paddy Casey and other guns too.
Then, like in all good stories, disaster strikes. Cian's been called back to Dublin by his Mum to finish an album they've started.
The rest is a short song. We have a week left. We go to the studio one Sunday afternoon. I bring in my musical soul brother Dave (who plays bass and sings here) spring four new songs on them both and this is what happened.
